Subject: Engine Noise: Clicking? IP: Logged
Message: My truck is new. But lately, I've been hearing a whirring and clicking noise from the engine when I go 5 mph.
Does anyone have this?
Thanks,

Message: The clicking noise might be from the injectors. Our injectors are very noisy and can be heard either at idle or going down the road at slow speeds.
Is the whirring noise your clutch fan?

Message: Wait a second...... I heard some noise as I drove out of the dealers lot 489 miles ago. Sounds like lifters to me... So its just the injectors tapping?

In my opinion, the injectors have a slightly higher pitch to them.
Also the injectors have a steady rate of noise whereas the injector's noise will have a constant tempo while the lifter's tapping will increase with revolutions.
If you think it is lifters definitely take it back to the dealer.

HUH???
Guess I should've had that second cup of coffee before I posted that.
Anyway ... the injectors will have a constant noise independant of the RPM's while the lifters will have a tempo dependant on the RPM's.
Hope that makes more sense.

Message: Thanks for the replies...
Suppose if I take my Dakota to the nearest dealership? Will they check for some clicking and fix it for free?
The noise is really getting to me.
