Subject: 44RE HELP!! IP: Logged
Message: Hey i just got my first dodge dakota.....its a 1997 dodge dakota 2wd V6, nice truck but has the 44RE transmission in it.Ive heard nothing but bad about their automatics. My main problem is the tranny "bangs" when it shifts into third and overdrive....ive went all through the manuals and adjusted the bands and its still banging....what would cause it to bang? I could use all the info i can get. thanks~

Here you will find what is called a sure cure kit
that will solve yur problems
Usualy gov valve buzz
But the first thing you should do is replace the
gov pressure sensor and sol from chrysler around
$200 get the parts first than drop the pan and
you will see where they are, there is also 2 sols
for o/d and lockup leave those alone
A new filter and good fluid
+4 valvoline is the cheapest around $3.50 Qt
Amsoil syn
Redline syn
you will need aprox 6 Qts put 4 in start and check
just get it into the safe area than take it for a
good 20 25 mile drive and recheck and top off on
level ground
Do not fill when cold the fluid expands a lot and
if you over fill it will cause foaming and heat
buildup
9 out of 10 times its just the sensor and sol and
nothing more do this before anything else
