if he map sensor was going bad would i cause the engine idle
higher than normal at times? Some times my engine will idle
around 1000 until i tap the gas than it will drop to the normal 600.
it only does this sometimes and iv checked for air leaks and there
are none, so it must be an electrical problem. any help wold ba appreceated. thanks

MAP won't do this. Check fault codes.

I suspect a bad wiring connection. Check and clean all battery connections and all grounds, and check the electrical plugs at the sensors.

A bad speed sensor will also do this

You can see it on a scanner when it happens the
truck will be standing still but reading upto
5mph but not moving the computer thinks its
rolling and the IAC will step up

next time it does that just hit the brakes and
see if it slows down

taping the throttle and it slows to idle check
for a sticky cable or did you over tighten the
TPS causing it to hang up slightly

You can check this, digital volt meter center wire
and ground .4 to .7 now open and close the
throttle slowly key on engine off it should always
return to the same low volts if it hangs just
a point or 2 say its .5 but at times it stays at
.7 its hanging, losen the screws a little

I have seen this many times and as you say a
quick snap or tap and its fine

Another thing did you clean the IAC's seat out
good with carb clean and put a little oil on
the o-ring when you instaled it a small amount
of carbon can cause this holding the valve off
the seat just ever so slightly

Only reving a few hundred rpm is telling me its
something very simple

Thanks for the advice lary, i will pull the iac out and reclean and lube it up and loosen the screws for the tps. Im confused tho i have the mechanical spedometer, and i just replaced the speed sensor on the tail shaft of the transmission due to it would not go into o/d or lock up, but what sensor will keep the computer thinking the vehicle is moving? thanks for all the help
Adam
