Message: I have a '97 dodge dakota V6 I'm not sure on the liter but lately my acceleration has been horrible I got out ran by a '92 stock ford ranger that i've out ran many times before i thought it was a one time thing no its happened several times now. I have to admit I haven't been being good to it i've been running high rpms but is there any way to increase my acceleration? I have a budget though and its not high... but not low i guess i should say hum I read this:
Over time, the throttle cable stretches and the housing seats more into its ferruls, thus, adding play to the gas pedal. You never feel this because a) it happens so slowly and the gas pedal drops down more so theres no "free" period (where you push on the pedal and nothing happens) while youre pressing on the gas. This is an easy fix, and its free. All you need is a few zip-ties and 10 minutes.
Crawl under your dash and find the throttle cable. There's two of them under there, one is the right one, the other one I have no idea what it does, but dont zip tie it. What you want to do is pull the gas pedal off the floor and wrap as many zip ties as you can fit around the excess throttle cable sticking out. I fit three around mine and the difference is huge. Once you've done this, your truck can fully achieve a wide opened throttle. My friend Tom did this and claims his truck down shifts smother now. Whether of not it helps shifting is up to you. I dont know. But you will get better response at the pedal.
would this work cause if it would i would like to do this and if so would that cable be in the same spot?
but any help i would be very thankful I dont know alot about vehicles so if you could explain in detail that would be great thanks ahead of time!

Message: It is a V6 not a race car. If you want something fast, then by all means buy a race car. Otherwise just shut the hell up and deal with it.

Message: Lyons, first I would have someone hold the gas all the way down and look through the throttle body to see if its open all the way, if not I would open it by hand to see how much more it can go, then try the wire tie trick if it isn't opening all the way.
Good Luck
