Subject: Lauch and Shift RPMs IP: Logged
Message: Ok so this is all speculation,
Does anyone have any ideas for a higher lauch RPM? My low end sucks! I'm having problems beating minivans (even w/ all the money i have put in)! I figure if i have a higher RPM launch i can get to that higher RPM quicker for better starts. The highest i can go w/ out spinning the tires is 1500 RPM. Any tips?
Also, shifting questions, i have a 5 speed so everything is up to me, since our trucks loose power after 4900 RPM should i shift at that point? or should i let it go until i almost hit the limiter? I know the truck looses power, but isnt the gear ratio better?
Just for the record:
2000 RC V6 4x4 (yes i know)
Hombrew K&N Intake
V8 throttle body (should i port this?)
JBA Headers
Cat back exaust (single in dual out)
1.7 RRs
180 Tstat
Jet II Chip (seems to work for me)
stupid 3.55 gears (but dont know where to get 3.92 for a 4x4 & i hear they are expensive)
Please help guys!

Message: Here's what I do... launch in first gear, starting to let the clutch out when I hit 1000RPM. Run it up to about 4250, grab second, which drops me to about 2250, right where the power band starts. From there on out, shifting between 4000-4250 drops it back to 2250-2500. First gear is geared so low that the low-end power is not quite as important (if you had more, you'd be spinning the tires sooner!).
