my 96 dakota V6 would not start after driving around town. Upon further investigation the engine showed signs of not pumping fuel. I removed the fuel pump and inspected (fuel gauge does not work). The truck started right back up, went to gas station (turned off truck) to add more fuel but would not fire when tried to leave. Towed truck home let truck sit for a few days/ week and truck starts right back up as I test it daily for the past 4 days.
Is this a fuel pump going bad or relays. Need help pointing me in the right direction.

I think it could be one or the other, the thing you could try is there are a couple of different relay's in the fuse box, (under the hood) and try using one of the other relay's, be carefull though, because there is one that works the ignition system. How many miles on truck? if more than 150,000 I would suspect the pump, but still I would check the relay first.
the relay's are the same and will inter change.
Good Luck

Check the wiring harness just underneath the
fuse/relay box - need to unwrap the tape - find
the splice of 3 or 4 wires .
Redo this splice , solder or better quality
butt joiner splicer .
This is a common problem on many Dak's..

When it does not start pull the coil wire off cap
and check for spark

The splice going bad will lose fuel and spark

I would check the connections bu the fuel pump
near gas tank

If you keep the tank full does it happen less
if so its pump

usualy 15 to 20 min they will restart with a bad
pump

Your 96 should still have the shrader valve just
remove cover and press the pin see if there is
pressure
