Message: The RE 96 and up transmissions are well known
for the pressure sensor and sol going bad and
they will do all sorts of weird things when they
go and it will just keep getting worse
Go to chrysler and get a new sensor and sol
drop the pan and you will see them replace them
change fluid and filter while your in there
Around $200 for the parts $10 to $15 for filter
kit comes with new pan gasket just snug on the
pan bolts calls for 7 foot pounds 84 inch
Good fluid
Amsoil
Redline
+4
no cheap walmart or dextron to be used in these
transmissions
CarQuest has the valvoline +4 for around $2.50
Qt get six put 4 in just get it into the safe
area than run the truck untill its good and hot
like 25 miles than top off
If you overfill it will cause foaming be sure its
hot before you fill to full mark
One other thing that these transmissions have
a problem with is there is a check valve in the
cooling line system that sometimes sticks or plugs
up but the sensor and sol is the usual colprit
Once the pan is off you will see where they are
locatedyou do not need to drop the valve body
to replace them but take care with the gasket
they do not come with a new one you will need
to reuse them if you damage them you will have to
order new they do not stock them but they do stock
the sensor and sol
Have a lot of rags ready its a very messy job
LOL
Auto zone has the big plastic drain pans for
around $6

Message: Yes same problem
The RH was a good trans with just a little work
they were very strong
The RE was used so they had more control and could
use the torque managment systems in the computer
all it did was make the trucks doggie
They are good transmissions with the 1 big prob
of the sensor and sol
When they start acting up this should be replaced
right away the longer you drive it the more damage
can happen and eventualy total failure will not
be to far away
