Message: ok i have a 99 dodge dakota 2wd manual. When i am at a dead stop and start to drive i can hear something moving it sounds like metal on metal clanging sound and then it just turns into a squeaking noise. The noise sometimes only lasts between 1500 and 2000rpms and when it is in 5 gear going above 45mph i cant really hear it anymore. Could anyone tell me what it could possibly be?

Message: if its loose, or very tight, it could be bad, if it has a lot of play (loose) it will need to be replaced. Sounds like yours may be dry and that could be the cause of the noise you are hearing. You may be able to grease it and see if that helps.
Good Luck

Message: If it's already squeaking you have internal damage and the bearings have alredy begun to self destruct. Drop the driveshaft and check the joints. They will most likely be stiff, especially the front one.
On my 92 they are two different sizes. Don't know if 99s are the same.

Message: ok i went and got the parts the other day and when i began to put the u joints in the yoke a noticed they were to big for the yoke holes. then i went to autozone and got the right size but then when i got the u joints in the yoke and in the back of the drivetran and when i got under the truck to put bolts back in and tighten they u joints to the rear dif i noticed that the u joint end caps were not big enough for the rear end and then i looked at the old u joint and noticed it had 2 different sized caps on the ends. my question is do they have this part at any part stores that come with the 2 different size end caps or what. please someone help me.

Message: That is not normal
did someone change rear end or the yoke
The only time I ever ran into that was on the
conversion vans that were made into 4x4's
Take the old one in yes they do make u joints
with diff outer sheel diameters
I have never seen this on a dodge truck something
along the line was changed there and you may need
to special order a u joint for it
