New Clutch 10k on it

Can't downshift to first or second from dead stop. Have to roll in 3rd then downshift.

Grinds going into reverse from a gear or dead stop.

Sounds like either the wrong clutch, or most likely, misaligned. Most clutches have a tool to aid in alignment on the flywheel. Hope you changed the throwout bearing at the same time - good practice.

Sounds like the clutch isn't fully disengaging, so I doubt its in the trans for now, but if you don't get it fixed it could cause the trans to have a lot of problems. I would check all the bolts that hold the bellhousing/clutchhousing on to the engine, and the bolts that hold the slave cylinder to the clutch housing to make sure it hasn't came lose, thereby not fully disengaging the clutch. I know it sounds strange, but I once actually had a clutch act the same way, and I was prepard to replace the clutch and when I started to remove the trans bolts they were just loose, so I tightened them up and it fixed my problem.
Good Luck

Bleed the system you have some air and it is not
disengaugung all the way

Also we have found that changing the trans fluid
to a good sythetic makes them shift easier

The grinding tells me its not disiguaging enough
bleed the system before you do anything else that is the most likely problem

Pump it a few times you will need a helper,
now open bleeder and have it pushed to floor and
hold it there close bleeder now let it up open
bleeder push to floor hold close than let up

do this about 6 times and make sure your master
for the clutch is checked every 2 times if it
runs low you will just pump more air into the
system

These can be a real pain sometimes the only way
is to have a power bleed done by a good shop
some of these systems this is the only thing that
will work

Be glad you do not have a ford there the worse of
all of them on there trucks

What you are doing by hitting 3rd than 1st is
your stoping the rotation than it will shift in

Untill you get it bleed out and working hit 4th or
5th than reverse this will stop the grinding

sure you got the right throw out and slave cyl
or it will never work right

The V8 and V6 look the same but are diff travel
