Message: yeah
its real easy...here's what you do
get some duct tape, plyers, K&N cone filter and a hammer
first detach the hose from the bottom of the radiator and tape the hole shut. Then remove the air hat and air box(you will need a hammer for this). Throw it all in the garbage. put the hose into the LEFT side of the throttle body and tape it down. Pour motor oil into the right side(I prefer Mobil 1). then reset yor pcm by submerging it in a bucket of antifreeze. reconnect the pcm and your good to go. Adds 235 hp.
good luck

Message: Ll blackdak, stop being such an ignoramous.
Just did the homebrew on my 98 V6. What you'll need is some about 2' of 3" ABS tubing, 2 45 degree 3" elbows, a 3" flexible connector and a K&N filter (Part RE-0920). There are a few websites out there that describe it pretty well. Do a search for 'Cold air intake' on this board and try to find some links. Really easy to do, and seems to improve both performance and MPG.

Message: Canucklehead, I thought that the correct filter part number was RE-0810. Is there a difference between that one and yours?
Which one is better, anybody else have an opinion?
Thanks

Message: Bleagues,
There are a few that will work, however, I'd been told that the RE-0920 worked the best. It's a 6x9" cone, with a 3.5" intake. Worked awesome for me! I'm sure the other will work as well. I'm not sure of the differences between the two, but you can check it out at www.knfilters.com
Hope this helps!

K&N filter RE-0810 has an outlet opening of 3" which works perfectly if you're using 3" aluminzed steel (like mine). It will slide over the pipe no problem.
But if you're building the cool air intake using PVC then the 0810's outlet isn't large enough to go over the PVC and you would need another rubber flange to connect everything.

Message: Hey guys, I was thinking of making one of my own as well. My question is, does the intake make any more engine noise. I seem to remember somebody saying that you can hear a sucking noise with these. Also, does the PVC piping melt, or should I go with exhaust tubing? Can you buy a heat shield to wrap around the PVC if I decided to go that way? Thanks.

Message:
The intake does make a little more noise (remeniscent of a 4 barrel at WOT), but not like the open air filter does.
I've only heard of one incident about 2 years ago of the PVC intake melting. Since it's an isolated incident (to the bets of my knowledge), I have to wonder if it really happened or if it was a "build-up" to selling a similar product.
Whether you go with a PVC intake or aluminized steel, you'll be able to find a wrap for it. Your local building supply will have a variety of wrap and tape.
