Message: Possible - starter solenoid = listen for a 'clunk'
as someone else turns the key .
Also possible - 'neutral sensor' - mounted on transmission- try putting in neutral instead of Park , or at least 'pull up on shifter' .
Also possible , but not likely is actual key switch.

does the engine "turn over" but won't start?
if so check for fire then check for fuel. these engines need 3 things to run, fuel, spark and compression.

Message: Is the engine not cranking
or cranking and not starting
When it does not start pull a spark plug
Wet losing ignition
Dry losing fuel
If both and a gen 2 truck there is a splice in the
wire harnas about a foot back from power dist box
under hood that goes bad undo harnas a bigger red
wire that goes to 3 smaller wires cut splice out
and solder wires togather
If you suspect both put an iductive type timing
light right on the coil wire and watch while
cranking if the plugs are dry and the timing light
is also not lighting its the splice
not cranking
nutral safty switch on trans
starter relay in dist box under hood
starter itself
or just bad connections or grounds

Message: So if it cranks and does not start, plugs are dry, and no spark, relays have been swapped and the splices are good, then what is it?

Message: my guess is somewhere in the CPS circuit. either the CPS itself or the signal/wiring it sends to the PCM for the ASD.

Message: replaced the CPS, too.
Only thing left is the Dist p/u...it was replaced with a supposedly known good one, but.....it sure is wierd how all this started with an overcharging problem.
