Subject: Signs of a Bad Wheel Bearing

Guy's: Would you all please tell me what the tell tale signs of a failing wheel bearing. Lately I've noticed a squeak when I first start off with the vehicle. It sounds like its coming from the front end but only lasts about 5 seconds until I come up to cruising speed. It appears to be in the wheels because the squeak changes in frequency as I increase speed until I can't hear it any longer. Thanks for your help.>>AJ

could also be brakes

jack up that wheel and see if it has any bearing
play usualy when these seald wheel bearings go
they howal loud and you can feel the play in them

Its a sealed unit 1 1/4 or 32mm socket to remove
axle nut 3 or 4 bolts from back side to remove
the assembaly

they are around $100 to $150
Auto Zone has the timkin replacements at the
best price should it be the bearing

also check your brake pads or sticky caliper

The bearings seam to go right around 100,000
miles

Also i had this happen with my 99' dakota i thought it was the brakes and stuff so i went to change them and they were fine and i didnt check to see if i had any play in my wheel so i just started driving it again but the noise became really loud and it was like a grinding noise well i finally went and bought the new baring which was around $120 at auto zone and advanced cuz you cant just buy the bearings you have to buy the whole hub i believe and it takes a big ass socket to take the nut off haha and alot of heat from the torch and finally got it changed and no more loud noise.
