Message: You may have some excessive clearances in a couple of rod bearings, or old oil that has lost some viscosity. The knock goes away because the engine builds oil pressure when it starts. Change your oil and filter asap, and look for signs of metallic debris in your oil. Go with a thicker oil for summer, say 10-40, and see if that helps. You might also get someone with an experienced ear to listen to it and identify what the problem really is. Better to catch it now than to go back down the hiway and try to find all the pieces you blew out through the oil pan. :-)
