Subject: engine temp sensor IP: Logged
Message: well i was having trouble with the truck bucking and sputtering from cold start so i replaced the engine coolant temp sensor. From what i understand the one that controls the ECM has two wires on it. this is the one i replaced and specifically called "engine temp coolant sensor". As i am learning, there is also another sensor that just controls the guage on the dash and supposedly only one wire. I have yet to find this wire on the engine block. The truck still displays the same symptoms even after replacing whatever sensor it was. the sensor was right by the thermostat, looked like a mini IAT sensor. I have a 2002 3.9 2wd rc 5 spd. since replacing the sensor all i've noticed is the temp guage reading a bit higher, that's all! that tells me i replaced the guage sensor, where the heck is the ECM sensor?? thanks for the help

Message: The sensor you are looking for is one the right side of the engine as you are in front of the truck looking at it, in front, it is possible that the A/C compressor is in the way. The one on the right should be for the dash gauge, and the one on the left for the computer. Both are on the intake manifold. It sounds to me like you replaced the correct one, so I'm not sure if you change the other its going to help.
Try running the codes on it. Turn the key on,off,on,off,on,off,on and whatch the odometer, it should display the codes there, write them down and post them here, I'm sure someone will get back to you and let you know what they mean.
One more thing, don't try to start the eng. when you turn the key on, only make everything come on then off, it is supposed to be completed within 1-2 seconds, then the codes are suppose to come up. When its finished, it will show "done" or Pdone.
Good Luck
