Subject: starter wire/cable IP: Logged
Message: mine looks pretty chopped up so im going to replace it, it looks like its 4gauge, but the actual metal wire is very thick, and few strands, maybe 20, vs the usual power cable that has about 100-200very thin strands
will 4gauge power cable work, or do i need that specific type of cable with the thick strands?

Message: Why not just get a replacement from the auto store? But to answer your question, I think the 4 gauge will be fine.
Good Luck

Message: The number of strands is important to the current-carrying capacity, as well as flexibility. You must match the number of strands as well as gauge.

Message: 4 ga is not big enough. Go take wiring 101 and try it again. daddio says you are stupid!
