if memory serves me, the 12 indicates it's checking codes and the 55 indicates the end of codes, so it looks like you have a code 41. whatever that is i don't have an OBD code list handy. found one! looks like 41 = "Charging system excess or no field current."

I think its the coil. Even though you changed it it can still be junk. My 92 was doing the same. It was the coil and it was a new one. Double check the wiring to it and make sure the batt connections are clean and snug..If any doubt have the batt checked at auto zone it is free....Your loosing spark or power to the coil (loss of spark) there somewhere.

sounds like a fuel or ignition cutting out

pickup in dist tells injectors when to fire
if signal fades you will lose all fuel

crank sensor intermitant will cut ignition

check all grounds first a bad ground will cut both
the ground behind the alt is the comp engine
ground very important

code 41 is Generator field not switching properly

http://dodgeram.info/Engine-Gas/OBDI/pcm_fault_code.htm

Alt going bad posible check with digatal volt
meter 12.5 sitting 13 to 14 running

run some wires into cab temp if it drops below
11 10.5 it will dye also check your batt

I too had the very same thing going on. I replaced the pick-up coil in the distributor first. This is around 30 bucks at AutoZone. I then had intermittent problems. I had already tuned everything up but when I checked the codes again, I got one saying the ignition coil circuit was bad. I happened to have a spare coil so I tried it. Problem solved. The coil I replaced was brand new but was apparently crap. I then read about Duralast parts which is exclusively what AutoZone and Advance sell and these electronic parts are last on the list in terms of reliability. I had never had a new part fail before this. hopefully this helps.

I have 93 Dakota 3.9L. Started missing and loosing
power bad after 45 mins of driving. Did the same
thing 18 months ago. So I replaced the same parts
that fixed if last time. New Crank Sensor, Dist
Pick. Would crank crank and fire but would only
idle a few seconds (diesling) then die. Tried a
new TPS, same result. Any ideals?
