Message: this is kind of general but has anyone had a windshield replaced on their vehicle? I got a quote from a national company (Safelite) that seems to be pretty cheap and was wondering if there is different quality windshields or something out there. The last thing I want to do is drop some cash on a cheap windshield that cracks from the slightest hit.
thanks

Message: tlee, the windshild has to meet certain standards, the difference is the cost of the labor to remove/replace the old/new ones. You do bring up a good point though, if it sounds too good, it could wind up leaking after they get done. It would be easy to stop any leaks, so if the cost is a problem, I would go for it and if it leaks, I would seal it myself and not worry about it.
Good Luck

Message: the last winsheild i had changed was on my wife's '00 protege. the cheapest i found was 200 bucks. at the time it was in the body shop for some other work so i asked my body guy about it. he offered it to me at his cost - 145. get this, the guy he uses for all of his glass work is the same one that gave me the $200 price.

Message: daddio, that's really not too bad a price, I had a windshild replaced on a 93 Mercury Sable and it cost $270. That was a few years ago though. With a lot of the newer cars/trucks the windshild actually helps support the top, and some other parts of the car, I don't know just how much it does, a friend told me about it and he knows a lot more than I do.
