Well i was at a stoplight coming home from work and all the sunnden i hear this droning rumbleing tone near me. It frist it sounded like a mustang with a 5.0 so i look over just to make sure and to my surprise it is a Dakota with the V6 magum bages on the fender. So before the light turned green i thought i would mess with this alittle bit so i started to rev my little 4bager in my breatta(work car) and he started to reve his engine also. So as the light turned grenn i toke off and i started to hear the Dakota approching and then it flew by me and it tried to keep up with him at least so i could catch the next stop light and gave him the thumbs up. As he flew by me the truck sounded preatty good for just being a 6. But no V6 can match the sound of the 5.9 in my R/T. If you guys have sound pics of your V6 lets hear them beacause even though they are not 8s they still sound pretty cool.

i don't have any sound clips, but w/ an intake and good muffler(low resonance) these little v6's can sound pretty good.

I have a high flow cat and muffler and I have been accused of swapping badges. I actually once had to open the hood, so one guy could count the plugs. I don't think anyone self respecting human with a V8 would put a V6 sticker on there truck unless there that stupid, that’s like putting a blue oval on a Rolls. I have seen a few pnus envy guys with V8 badges on their V6's trying to catch an easy kill. I have let a ton of civics rev up beside me at light and let them go. If its not a fare fight why waste the gas.
That is just my opinion

I agree I have had alot of people come up to me in parking lots saying that my V8 sounds real nice then I tell them its a 6 and they hardly beleive me. The only time its sounds like a 6 is when it is in the higher rpm range but even then it is still pretty deep.

I agree.i Have a 95 x-cab v6 auto. as far as exhast goes i gutted the cat and put a 2 chamber flowmaster with a turndown. most people mistake it for a V8. i too have had to pop the hood to prove it's a 6. one guy saw me pass doin about 60 and he still thought it was an 8. you can get them soundin good, but i tryin to get a v8 right now.

I have a 2000 Dakota with the manual trans (4x4 club cab SLT).
I have a single high performance glass pack with stainless steel 2.75 inch dual exhuast. The tips come out right straight under the bumper and are curved. I got the exhaust done last year for $250. It purrs nice at idle and very nice tone when accelerating.
I have been asked by many what do I have under the hood. It is V6 but sounds like a 8. And I can really have the glasspack pop at 3,400 RPM and even have chirped the tires from 2nd to 34d (have BF Goodwich 31 inch Mud Terrains).

I get asked frequently if I have a V8 in mine and some people don’t believe I have a 3.9 until I open the hood. I have a set of Pacesetter headers bolted to a custom built Y-Pipe into a 3” High Flow Cat then a 3 Chamber flowmaster with dual outlets straight out the back. Though I lost a little low end torque, it does sound like a V8.

Well i looked on my e-mail and saw that people where posting on this old post. So i decided to look to see whats going on. I live in new castle and since oct alot of things have changed. I am know back to haveing a v6 but not in a dakota but in a camaro. I got rid of my R/T because i needed something that did not suck up gas so much. V6 camaro fitted the bill perfectly and it performs just like my R/T if not better.

I've been thinking seriously about a cold air intake and a nice exhaust for my 2000 3.9L. What brand exhaust does everyone recommend. Looking for a nice rumble and extra horsies. Something middle of the road that is decent quality but doesn't cost and arm and a leg.

its true. the 6 can be loud but it doesn't sound like an 8 at all. its just amplifying the wimpy noise that it makes stock. i was wondering if it was possible to get exhaust that will give u more power without irritating nosie that is loud enough to annoy me but not loud enough to impress me or anyone else(especially when they see the how slow its going) what would true duals with normal quiet mufflers do??

I have a 2000 dakota club cab. i have a hard tonneau cover, nice wide tires and decent rims, sport package, i have it looking nice, im gonna put a drop on it but first i want to get it hauling ass without doing anything to my gas mileage. i first want to put an exhaust sytem on it. Any recommendations? i heard that flowmasters on a v6 sound terribele, they are loud but dont sound powerful. i heard tha vortex exhaust is the way to go. please respond A.S.A.P.

for exhaust i would look at Flowmaster 40 series or even the 50 series which will be a little less noisy.
I would also check out the Magnaflow...
haven't used them personally on my v6 but i've heard nice things about them.

thanks brent, have you heard the flowmasters on a v6 tho? i havent heard them, i've only heard that they dont sound good. I've heard so many different things and i have no clue which exhaust to put onmy truck. i've heard votrex is good, dynomax is good, and i heard froma few people that flowmasters is good but doesnt sound powerful. also, would taking the cadilac converters off do any good?

I have the 40 series on my truck. Deep Throaty sound. Very noticable difference in the performance. I heard that the flowmaster sound best on Dodges. The guys next door to me has a Ford v6 and has the same one on and his sounds flat and putts along. It does not have as deep of a sound as mine either.
Mine is louder/deeper and sounds allot stronger.
I also had mine dualed to the sides, looks better, IMO.

i also have the 40 series but w/ a turndown and i love the sound. it is deep and many people think i have the v8. just today at the gas station some guy asked me about it and he was surprised it was a v6, and he said he was planning on getting a dakota soon. the turndown makes it kinda loud inside the cab though, but i dont mind

I have a 2002 V6 and it sounds better than my friends 2002 Mustang GT...... I have cat back exhaust 3" pipe to the Flowmaster D50 series....single in dual out..... with 2 3/4 in outlet pipes that head back to 4 1/2 in. tips.... It rumbles....

Hey toast I live in DE. My license plate is BAD DAK. I was up in Newark not to long ago. I had a person rev their car up at me while I was up there for a baseball tryout. I reved back but I don't know if it was you. I have a V6 3.9L with MagnaFLow exhaust that sounds so much like a 5.0 stang. You could have heard me.

Hey what kind of MagnaFlow ya got. Like how they run and what size toners? I have 3" toners on mine and i have a stainless steel exhaust pipe off the old manifold and the cati. Then they run into the two magnoflow exhuast and have 3"'s off it. Maybe you got some crappy job b/c in Lower Delaware we know how to do it right. But mine sound like a 5.0 stang!!
