Subject: Fuel pump dies@250K IP: Logged
Message: My fuel pump pumped it's last a few days ago. My odometer reads 250,800! I was surprised to see this thing last that long. This is from a 1998 Dakota 4x4, automatic.
Has anybody else experienced this from their fuel pump?

Message: Relf, if you have owned it since new, then you can be sure you have gotten more miles than most have. My fuel pump went at around 173000 miles.
Mine is an 88 though, its a little less pressure than the newer ones.
Its not real hard to change though if you have a few tools. some guys here say to remove the bed, others say to remove the tank, on mine I took the tank off.
Good Luck

Message: Raise your truck onto jack stands and lower the tank. Lowering the tank is much easier than removing the bed, but that's my preference. Good luck.

Message: I dropped the tank after I siphoned at least half of what was a full tank. It seemed to be easier than removing my camper shell then the bed.

Message: My Dak has the original pump at 179K miles. My car, a 92 Daytona, had the pump fail at 210K miles.
