 Subject: 3.9 to 318 swap

Ok, I need a new motor. I want to put a 318 in instead of a 239. I figure if I have to replace the engine, why not go bigger.
I have a 2002 3.9 4x4 5speed.
From what I gather of my research this is what I have to do:
Purchase 318 for a 97 - 03 dakota
Purchase new wiring harness (or run 2 new injector wires)
Purchase 318 4x4 computer (already done)
Possibly cut the fan shroud to make it fit
Find local shop to install
Is that just about it?

Since you have so much money available ' for gas ' , why not just buy a new Truck with a V8 ?

Why start a new thread?
You will need to beef up the front end as well. I.E. Torsion Bars. And the brakes suck!
And as much for ? comment, get a real name with your smart ass comment.

Don't worry about the shroud, ditch the clutch fan, and go electric. Trans will work, replace the clutch, with a nice Centerforce Kit.

I didn't mean to start a new thread. My internet was acting up. yea, I was definitely going to upgrade the brakes. From what I understand though I don't need to upgrade the torsion bars.

Maybe not the torsion bars at first, I guess you could try it, and if it's rough feeling, bottoming out,then maybe. I want to to this to mine one day as well. If you do it, please let me know what you learned from it.
As for brakes, don't replace the stock stuff with aftermarket stock stuff, Check this brake job out, I have done it, and I love it.
