Subject: Need New Engine - Maryland - Larry? IP: Logged
Message: My head gasket just blew at 100k miles. It looks like I should get a new engine. Does anybody know of a reliable body shop in the MD or PA area?
I would like to replace it with a 318 this week. This is not a job I can do.

Message: The shop I am talking to does not want to put a 318 in my truck because it came with a 239. I don't want to spend 2500 on an engine that I don't want. I dont even want to put a new engine in it, but I don't have good enough credit to get a new truck.
What should I do? This is not a job I can do.

Message: if you only have 100K miles, you have a lot of miles left. Do you know why the head gasket went out? You can replace a head gasket for a lot less than replacing the entire engine, of course you still have your v6. If your engine has been running hot or if you know of other reasons the gasket would go, you need to address those problems too. If you are short on money, fix your current engine, its much cheaper. A lot of shops are not going to want to swap the engine, they won't want to deal with any unforseen headaches with other items associated with the swap. If you just gotta have a V8 keep looking for another shop (I sure someone will do it) or get a V8 from your local grocery.

Message: I would just replace the head gasket
Have the head magnafluxed to check for cracks
most shops will not do a V6 to V8 swap they are
lost
They will however swap another V6 a good used
low mileage motor around $500
