My 2002 3.9 sport came with 255/65r16's from factory. I need tires by summer but that size is awful expensive. I have a friend who has some 235/75r16's that have hardly been used at all and he said he'll give them to me. I know the tire is just slightly taller but not as wide and if will affect the speedo slightly. What will it do for gas mileage?

Also one more thing. The elbow that's on the airbox. I've tried it on and off and i think i might get slightly better gas mileage with it off plus i think i get more pep. Could that elbow possibly restrict airflow by having it on. I don't know why factory would put it like that if it did but i swear it feels like it runs better with it off. I have a K&N drop in but i worry about water. I know the oil on the filter should displace it but i just worry cause i took that front flap off and i can see evidence of water have coming up into all the engine bay area.

i don't think your mileage will change any.

P255/65/16 = 29.1" tall
P235/75/16 = 29.9" tall

you speedo wiil be slow by 2.8% meaning: if it reads 60 you're actually going 61.7.

as far as the horn on the box goes, yeah it's restrictive. put it on a shelf in the garage. and for wrrying about water, unless your wheelin through 2-3 ft of water i wouldn't worry about. i took that horn and flap off of mine about 4 yrs ago. i don't go wheeling in a 4x2 but i don't worry about water either.
