Subject: Clunk in Rear End IP: Logged
Message: I havent looked to far into this issue, but i always enjoy everyone's advice from this site. I have a 99' 4x4 dak, and noticed recently that when i apply the brakes hard, i hear a clunk coming from (what seems like) the rear end. I didnt think the rear end was too complex so i dont have any clue as to what it could be.
I noticed when in 4 wheel drive in the snow, when i would apply the breaks harder and slide on the snow a bit, i heard a really big clunk then as well. Since the winter has gone, the noise still remains, but only when i need to stop quick. If i slowly apply the brakes, i cant hear it.
Help!
Thanks in Advance!

Message: Krissy, I think you may have a brake problem rather than a rear end problem. I would suggest you jack it up (1 side at a time) and remove the brake drum, and see if there is anything loose, it could be a broken shoe hold down, or something else pretty simple to fix. Good Luck.
