Message: They are also using corn to make alcohol raising

Trees and plants make our oxigin what do we do
when they are all cut down real smart hey
Just look at global warming all the floods and
tornados what will or it be like in 50 or 100 years
Well I think I have 20 or 25 years to go yet
have to go outside in a space suit or dye
Most people don't give a dam about whats going
on, I have cut way down on my driving my truck

have to get to work so its a hard one to figure
out how to fix

Message: How about ELECTRIC ?
And , not even Lithium-Ion , check out
fireflyenergy.com
Next generation lead-acid , except way less lead
-uses carbon nano-structure = more power available
even in cold conditions and 10 percent the weight.
Just need to get them in to production...

Message: Well, how about electric ? Electricity is expensive to manufacture; and most methods of production also produce lots of pollution. Better batteries is just a small part of the equation.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: Funny thing about electric cars, or hydrogen fuel cell cars, is that they are presently worse (from a CO2 global warming perspective.)
The electricity that powers these cars has to come from somewhere. And in this country, it comes mostly from coal. Coal emits more CO2 per energy produced than burning oil or natural gas. The generation, transmission, and storage process is also less efficient than an internal combustion engine -- you're better off with gasoline.
The bottom line is that batteries and hydrogen fuel cells are just the "gas tanks" of these proposed future cars. Even if they were free, we still need the "gas", i.e. electricity or hydrogen to put in them.

Message: Am I the only one who HATES batteries, and anything that relies on them? My cordless drill works great, but I have to buy new batteries every two years! Same with my cellphone, my laptop, etc... Even my truck, which is 10 years old, is its third battery! (but original motor :)
Maybe electric cars would be OK, at least we wouldn't constantly be at the mercy of the countries that sell us oil.
But that aside, who in their right mind would buy a car who's motor will wear out in 5 years, whether they drive it or not, and is filled with toxic deadly chemicals?

Message: We just covered a unit in my Basic Electronics class on hydrogen fuel cells (and touched briefly on other types of fuel cells). I think Hydrogen powered vehicles could prove to be pretty beneficial...especially with fuel cells utilizing electrolysis to get the hydrogen out of the water produced by the fuel cell as a by-product. We didn't study how easily Hydrogen can be produced...so I can't speak on how harmful it is ultimately, but the direct affects of switching to Hydrogen would be great since Hydrogen vehicles have absolutely NO emissions other than heat and pure water. Only drawback right now is they cost too damn much...and there's no refueling stations anywhere near here. I doubt Big Oil will allow us to switch over to a completely alternate fuel source without a huge fight though...afterall, if we're all switching over to something that's actually good for the world, then we're obviously not putting money into their pockets and they're gonna have a problem with that.
Hybrid vehicles are nice compared to standard gas vehicles with current gas prices...but they aren't gonna solve any problems, just slow them down.
Electric vehicles are nice when speaking in terms of refueling them...but when those batteries all must be disposed of, it's gonna hurt the environment even worse...plus the range per charge blows. If you wanna take a road trip, you better have a couple weeks off work, or plenty of spare batteries.
In the end...I don't think we'll be seeing any solutions to our problems anytime soon. Even if one is found, the vast majority of people will not be able to afford it for many years...yet at the same time, we can barely afford to face the rising gas prices either. I do think a hybrid hydrogen/electric car would be extremely beneficial to the environment though...

Message: Many "Big Oil" companies are actually duping a lot of research money into fuel cells and renewable energy sources, as of a year or two ago it was far more money than spent by the U.S. Government (on such research.) Don't know about today, but it's definitely a huge investment.
That way, even if hydrogen does replace gasoline, we'll still be paying them at the pump!

Message: There just is no easy answer for the problem
Oil companies had record profits in 2007 and we
are going to be paying $4 a gal by june according
to the msnbc news station I watch
We are all in for a rough ride here
I remember LP gas at 14 to 19 cents a gal last
gas I bought 250 gal was over $500 its a major
investment just to heat your house and have hot
water and a stove to cook your food
If there was no so much war and all people could
just get along maybe all our heads togather
could solve the worlds problems
I guess when a person gets older you begain to
think differant in my younger years I never
gave things like this a second thought
