vipers= under 100 bucks
H/S = 250-300 bucks

I speced out the harlands and they actualy work
out to 1.71 to 1 ratio

They add .030 lift and right around 4 degrees
duration

rated for 8,000 rpm and there pin between each 2
for each cylinder is a lot better than guide
plates which you need hardend push rods to use

A rock solid alinement and a very stable system

The crowers using the washers and the valve stem
for alinement and floating on the stud is no
where near as stable but they work well but
only rated for 5500rpm and I have thrown 1 right
off so I do not recomend them unless you use the
more expensive kit with guide plates, they also
have to be adjusted properly

I have no rev limiter on my truck and it happened
one fine day knocked the keeper and retainer off
the valve was hanging by the seal it could have
been a real disaster

Harlands just bolt in, its the way to go for most
easy install and no valve cover baffle mods

I am running the crowers with guide plates in my
2 stroked motors at the time I did not know
harland was making them for the mag motors

I have seen both harlands and crowers with over
100,000 miles and still just like new but there
was some guide plate and push rod ware

As I answered in another post

I have never seen or used the stamped viper
rockers

if the same design running on the half circle
than yes they would work

the friction would drop the power 3 to 4hp so
around a 15 gain if they fit

as daddio had stated, the viper rockers do bolt right in with no problem whatsoever. I think that it was one of daddio's old posts that convinced me to purchase them. I was very pleased with them. Being that they are sooo much cheaper than the Harlands (which means you can put that money elsewhere to make more power!), they have fantastic bang-for-the-buck value. If you do go with the viper rockers, ONLY get the rocker arms and just use the stock pedestals.

I agree that the viper rockers are better bang for the buck, but the Harlands are really nice. I got the rollers for Xmas, and I was really pleased with the quality.

They're ORANGE!

(too bad I can't see them any more)

Orange anodised extruded alm.

If the viper 1.7's work go for it increasing the
lift and duration seeing a bigger cam helps

The crower and the harlands on the dyno show a
gain of 15 to 18 hp at the wheels that is a nice
gain

use the other money for a bigger tb and a cold
air system, good cap rotor and wires help

plugs the best bang for the buck is the ngk Vpower
FR4 stock
FR5 1 colder

a good flowing muff also will help

I bought those viper rockers for my 96 5.2. The stock retainers won't work with the vipers. 1) there is too much slop in the viper rockers, even after the bolt torq to 21ft pounds. I ordered the viper retainers, we'll see if these help.
Or am i mission something about this mod?

were is the slop

If its just the pushrods stock mesure 6.905 but
the mopar performance pushrods and what is speced
for the V6 is a 6.925 they mesure 6.930 they are
what I run they also give you a slightly strater
angle than the shorter ones

The rockers ride on a half circle that sits
on a pedistal that will not change no matter
what you do to the top

The stock retainers that hold the 1.6 rockers in seem to be too small for the viper 1.7. 1.7's are ok from pushrod to valve, no slop that way. The slop im getting is from side to side.
The "X" "Y" axis. If you know what i mean.

Got a question for you Larry, is it necessary to install the Mopar performance pushrods(6.925), if I upgrade to the Harland Sharp rockers? If so, where are you getting your pushrods from, I found the rockers on Summitt, but not those pushrods.

I know exactly what you mean, as I had the same "problem" happen whenever I put the viper rockers on mine. I torqued them and they had the same "slop." I was a little frightened, but as I stated in the post that I referred to above, the new rockers would tick VERY loudly for the first few minutes it was turned on. This went on for maybe a day or so after I had installed them, but then the ticking went away, and I had never had any problem with them whatsoever afterwards. So, what I'm trying to tell you is that based on my experience with them, you shouldn't worry about them, and they will be fine. Let us know how it works out for you.

PS-regarding the viper pedestals: I seem to remember that they are either too tall or too short (or something like that) to work for the V8 magnum applications.

1.7s are installed. Along with a flowmaster 40s muffler. Throttle response is better. Ill know more once the computer resets itself.
As for the slop, dakownr is right. After retorqing the rockers, they tightened right up.
I recommend this mod to anyone.

the harlands are just fine with the stock 6.905
push rods

I just had a new set of 16 6.925 mopar performance
push rods collecting dust so I trew them in with
the new cam and lifters

I get almost all of my push rods from summit
racing just ordered a set of 9.5 yesterday for
a ford 400 $27
summitracing.com has some of the best prices out
there and if you find something cheaper they
will match the price
