Message: "what is the death flash?" a reprogramming of the PCM by the dealers for customers who complained of pinging. most of the time a band-aid for other underlying problems. there is usually a sticker on the PCM indicating an update. don't know the particulars on it except that its been said to make your truck a real dog performance wise.
"what does it do?" retards timing causing a loss of power.
"how does it happen? and how can i prevent it?" it's done by the dealers only. and you can avoid it by not bringing it to the dealer complaining of pinging/ valve clatter/ pre-ignition.
