Did they put overdrives in the 88 3.9L dakota 4WD's? or lock-up convertors? Mine doesn't have the O around the D on the gear selector and never shifts past drive. Possibly its just a straight-up 3speed?

Mikey, there were a few that only had the 3 speed with lock up torque converter. The 5 speeds were over drives though.

You can tell by looking for a switch either on the dash or the shift lever that is labeled "O/D" or "O/D off". If you have neither, it's just a 3-speed.
