Subject: Cheap Serp. Belt?
IP: Logged

Message:
I went to AdvanceAuto a few weeks ago and got a belt after I replaced my Tensioner. Was kinda low on money and got the cheapest belt there which was like 30 bucks some made in china jobby it just said "Belt". The next cheapest one was 67 bucks I think it was goodyear. Ever since Ive got the cheapy its squealed most of the time even more so when the outside temp is 20+. Is the cheap belt causing this squeal? or?

I don't know about the brand of belt, but I had the same problem on my 01 with the lesser expensive belt from Advance. It squealed and howled like a banshee, no matter what the temperature was. If I remember right they swapped it for me and another did the same thing. I got the better quality belt from Napa for about $48.00 and have had no problems with it at all and it's been on for almost 2 years now. It has no cracks or signs of wear on it at all. I keep the Advance belt in my truck for a spare if I ever need it.

Well here I am thought it was the belt. Sounded too mettalic though so I started with the center idler pulley. Took it off spun it and the bearing was getting dry was making a noise. Got a new one for 20$ put it in still did it. So then worked my way to the ac clutch. Sprayed a couple shots of oil in the pulley holes and it stopped. Im sure it will be back though. So looks like im gonna have to replace the ac comp. since you cant get just the clutch kit? Dodge must own Sandon or something.

I had to replace my AC compressor about a month ago and I think I saw clutch and pulley kits on the NAPA website. I don't know if the clutch and pulley can even be replaced separately, but it might be worth a look. Someone here might know.
