Message: Is anyone else not happy with the shifting of the automatic V6 daks? I have a 2000 and the POS never stays in gear long enough. I have tried a JET chip but they suck!!

Message: I also have a 2000, Club Cab, and I also simply loathe the shifting points of this truck. I continuosly want it to stay in the lower gear, but it refuses and then I lose power.
What can auto tranny sufferers do? Anyone know of a good mod to help extend shift points?

Message: Where is the transmission shifting at and at what position is the throttle at when it shifts like "crap"?
There is also an inexpensive way to firm up the shifts without having to use the $100 Transgo kit on the V6. (It's not an actual "Shift Kit" but does firm the shifts some.)

Message: Off hand, I couldn't pinpoint the RPM point of shifting, but inevitably always a long way before it "winds out"...For instance, if I start off slowly from say a Stop sign, I will literally be in third gear by the time I reach 15 mph. My kingdom to hold it in second.
If I start off quickly, there's always a very fine line between how hard I accelerate and how extended the shifts are. Inevitably, I miss that and the shifts occur way too soon and I loose power in second.
Bernd, what does the Transgo kit do and what is the inexpensive mod? Is that the TV cable move?

Message: I was just reading thru the post about the shift probs on that slush box in the v-6. Yup, mine too. I have some access to some serious Mopar motorheads and if they come up with some lowbuck ideas I'll be sure to get them out to you all. BTW the T.V. cable will get you a bit of change, but if you move it too far it'll either 1. Go back where it was the first time you MASH all the way down on the throttle.(there's only so much play to play with). OR 2. It'll bend up the lever inside the tranny that is hooked to. It's only a sheetmetal affair (and not that beefy to boot). So don't expect miracles by moving that cable. And your computer might just say, "What the hell ya doin'?" and you might get no change at ALL.

Message: know what...I actually think it shifts pretty well...sometimes even thinks you have power(which of course u don't)the only problem is that sometimes it seems to get stuck one gear too high an accelerate really weakly...but Overall I think its a pretty ok auto.

Message: there is a cheap way to make it shift harder, remove the accumulator spring and increase the pump pressure, but i would not recomend most people on this board trying that, unless you know what you are doing. it requires you to drop the valve body, more in depth than most people know. as far as v6 per. probs, yeah, i still don't have enough power and i have almost ever bolt on you can do without nitrous or s/c. my x-cab v6 auto has ran a best of a 15.90 @ 84, with alot of mods. when looking for performance stuff ask alot of questions before buying it, stuff like headers will only work best after several engine mods.

Message: The overdrive solenoid pack and transducer are known for causing shifting problems on the 97+ transmissions. Change them and then try it again.
Common shifting problems:
(1) Transmission goes into shift "nirvana" (doesn't quite know which gear to stay in)
(2) Shifts too quick or too late
Both of those are related to the aformentioned items.

Message: Texas97, yes you can adjust the intermediate band...but it's best to use a shift kit as it recalibrates the line pressure as well.

Message: Well Texas97 why don't you just rub it in, "look everyone I have a 5 speed I don't have to deal with your problem hahaha"! j/k:)
Well I have learned that I can take off one of two ways, grany style or foot to the floor pushing you back a centimeter in your seat style. There is no middle ground, if I try to take of kind of fast it just shifts at about 2K rpm. But my main grip is it takes too long to shift, it's like it is grany shifting. I want to bark second! That will take a few more mods though :)

Message: Sorry, Montag.. didnt mean to rub it in! I used to have a GenII auto V6 and I loved it! But when it came time to give it up, I got a really good deal on a GenIII V6 stick, and since I am a poor college student, it made sense to get a cheaper manual that will get me good gas mileage too. The added power was something I wasnt thinking about when purchasing the truck. What size tires do you have on your truck? I could chirp the tires in my old auto in second gear with 235/75/15's, sometimes.

(60+) THE COMPUTER THEN LEARNS YOUR DRIVING STYLE AND ADJUSTS THE SHIFT POINTS.

Message: Same here to all of these problems. I think these things are junk. This is my second Dodge and its the second time Ive been sorry with the purchase.Theres gotta be a way to get the computer to change the shift points. The thing is why wont MOPAR help out a little. theres obviously enough of us with THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS. Not even pay for it, but tell us what we can do to improve it. Im sorry I bought this thing but I'm stuck with it. Its not worth anything with 80000 on a 97 so I,m willing to consider spending a little money to get some performance out of it.
