Hi - been having a lot of troubles with the '99 Dakota lately. I posted before about the flexplate breaking (twice), now after getting it back from the transmission shop it won't idle. It goes from 500 to 1500 and back again continuously until it eventually dies.

I'm thinking they may have knocked off a vacuum hose somewhere but I can't see anything obvious... any ideas - I'm done with the guys at the transmission shop - they have no idea and claim it's nothing to do with the transmission work they did even though it didn't do this before.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Derek

I think you are correct, they have unplugged a vacuum line, or broke one somewhere around the back of the engine, if you have a 4X4, there are a lot of vacuum lines going to the rear of the trans/transfer case, if 2 wheel drive, I'm not sure other than there are a lot of vacuum lines on top, and rear of engine. Try using a vacuum gauge to see how much vacuum you have, if its below 17 inches, I'ld say you have a broke line, or one that is disconnected.

Thanks, it's 4WD, I'll see if I can track down a vacuum guage. Can you get to the lines with the transmission in?

FYI - Turned out to be a faulty O2 sensor.
