Message: I have an 02 4x4 Dakota Sport, when I crank it up on cold or rainy days, it has this lound obnoxious squeak to it. I thought it was the idler tentioner and it was, however, I have tryed lube and to lube the parts of the tensioner, is it just blow or bad or is there anything I can do to get it to SHUT THE F**K UP!!!!!

Message: You'll just have to replace it prolly...they're known for going bad. I've been lucky so far. Mine squeaks occasionally on a cold/wet morning, but nothing like a lot of people's do.

Message: Yeah, mine used to do that in the cold too, just until the bearings warmed up. After 7 years the noise got worse so I found the alternator was getting noisy. Ended up replacing the waterpump and idle tensioner too, all had bearings going bad. Figured it was better to bite the bullet and get everything straightened out before something failed while driving. Listening to different components with a stethoscope or even a long screwdriver (yup, conducts sound) can help to pinpoint the noise.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: I was working on a 95 Ford mini van, and I had a hard time trying to figure out where the noise was coming from and it turned out to be the drive belt, I went to advance auto and got a belt a 1/2 inch shorter and it cured the problem, only I also changed out the idler bearings, and alt. before I found the problem.
Good Luck
