Subject: Transmission leak IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys
Last night, my 96 3.9 Dak 4X4 started leaking through the automatic transmission line that connects to the radiator pretty badly. I take it to a local shop and they are telling me I need a new radiator because the "connector" where the line attaches is bad.
I informed him that the radiator is about a year old. He then said they will swap out the lines but that they won't be able to guarantee the work because of the "connector". Am I being rail roaded here?

Message: I don't think so, a lot of times as a machanic, you can get all kinds of bad stuff to work with and you can't tell how old, or how bad something is just by looking at it, I think the guy is just trying to cover his butt in case he breaks something while trying to take it apart. Its things like that that wind up costing a bunch and people get all upset because they think it should only cost a couple of bucks then get hit with a hundred dollar bill.
I changed the radiator hoses on my 98 Chrysler
it should have been about a 50 dollar job, when I was finished it turned out to be around $150.
Things happen and you wind up replacing stuff you hadn't counted on. On my Chrysler, it uses a water pipe, when I tried to bleed the system it broke the bleeder valve, no easy fix, just replace, $120. The new one has a metal housing instead of the plastic, good move.
I know that's a lot more than you asked for, just trying to explain why simple things can wind up costing so much.
Good Luck
