Hey guys, Im having a couple problems with my 98 4x4.. First my truck has been having trouble shifting gears, check engine light is on with the code: P0720. Which is an output speed sensor.. Anybody know where this sensor is located and how to change it??
I am also having a problem with my oil pressure.. My oil gauge jumps up and down, showing pressure then no pressure... I installed a new oil pump last year, and havent had any probs since.. Anybody have any idea?? My engine doesnt sound any different when the gauges drops, is there anyway I can check to see if it is getting oil even when the gauge is showing that it is not? Could the gauge be going bad?

Thanks

On the speed sensor, I think it is on the rear end, I don't know where though.
As for the oil pressure, it could be a bad sending unit, it is at the rear of the engine, next to the distrubuter you coulld hook up a regular oil pressure gauge, but it also turns on the fuel pump, so you would need to supply power to the pump so the engine would keep running. I'm thinking its the sending unit being the problem. One word of caution though, I ran a 69 chevy without the oil pump working and it didn't sound too bad at all, and ran for 3 days before it locked up. So just because its not making any noise after just a few seconds of no oil pressure doesn't mean its ok.I'm thinking though, when it loose's oil pressure, if it doesn't die, the oil, pressure is probably alright. It could be the gauge, as well. I would try the sending unit, then the gauge if the sender doesn't fix the problem.
Good Luck

Speed Gauge- look on you transmission and on your back axle, I have a 2002, and I found out that I had two sensors, one in the hogs head and one in the tranny itself, one reads from 0-45 and the other reads 45-max.

The Oil pressure problem could cause you big trouble or it could just be a crappy, cheap electric gauge, get a mechanical gauge is what I think they are called, and I don't really think this is the best thing but if you really get curious as to whether you are pumping oil or not, you could always take off one and only one of the head covers and have some one turn over for you, WIHTOUT cranking it up, so make sure to just have the engine spin a couple times to see if oil shoots out. BE CAREFUL THOUGH, make sure to take caution, hope that helps, good luck

Output speed sensor should be the one on the trani. the rear speed sensor is the one mounted on the rear differential...but if it's the rear speed sensor you'd also be getting the "ABS" and "Brake" lights both ON in the dashboard.
