Message: Has anybody purchased a Jasper Reman engine for their Dakota? Was wondering what kind of service life you got out of the reman and whether you would recommend changing engines instead of the truck? Thx guy's

Message: AJ, I remaned the 3.9 in my 88 Dakota, I did all the tear down, and rebuild. I had a good shop do all the machine work. The thing is, my engine was in such bad shape it needed everything done, deck the block, mill the heads, bore/hone regrind the crank, resize the rods, new cam/lifters the whole thing. I replaced, rebuilt, or reground everything.
I am happy with it, and have been driving it sence 2003, when I rebuilt it. I actually bought it out of a junk yard.
I read a few years ago that if you plan on keeping a car/truck for at least 3 years it is worth the expence to rebuild the engine/trans.
As for Jasper I never heard of them before so I can't comment on their work. They may do great work, try to find out as much about them as you can and go from there. Just remember, if they give a warranty, its only as good as their word, and if that's bad, the warranty is too.
I know its not just what you wanted, but something to think about.
Good Luck

Message: Jasper is good, one of the best remanufactuered engines on the market. They stand behind their warranty.
The shop I use when i need one is a preferred installer for jasper. They actually stopped installing other engines because of warranty claims and vendor issues. They would install an engine and it would have some issue that the other vendors would dispute as being faulty installation or whatever. To them, it's not worth the hassle. They have never had any issues with jasper.
3/36000 nation wide warranty.
Jasper is not the cheapest, but is one of the best. I grew up in Indiana and used to work traveling all over the state. i've driven by the plant in jasper Indiana many times. They are well known in the midwest.
In fact, that's my recommendation to people looking for a shop, look at the jasper website, find a local preferred installer. Anyone that can stay on jaspers preferred installer list does excellent work.

Message: AJ, if its done correctly, it will last as long as a new engine. I had a 50 Ford pick up with a flathead V8 and after I did a reman on it, I put over 100,000 miles and it was still running great when I sold it, the guy that bought it from me is still driving it as well, he doesn't drive it as much as I did though. It was my daily driver for over 10 years.(I sold it in 2002) Just take care of it like you would a new one and it should be fine. As I said, I have never delt with Jasper, but it sounds as though the come highly recommended.
Good Luck

Message: I watched the jasper transmission video a couple of years back. Based on that, recommendations and other sources, I'd use a Jasper transmission without hesitation. I'd have no qualms buying a Jasper engine either if push came to shove.
I would expect that you should experience as much life out of a Jasper rebuild as you would any engine built with very tight inspections as long as YOU take care of it properly.

Message: Something else to check on if you go with jasper, they used to offer a instalation kit, belts, hoses, gaskets, plugs, ect, ect if you bought one of thier engines,it was much cheaper to get that stuff through them then to buy it elsewhere.it has been several years since I was pulling wrenches for a living so they may not offer anymore but I would bet they still do..
