Does anybody know if there are headers available for a 3.9 4X4 and if they are worth the $? What kind of HP/MPG gains could I expect?

I've read here were a few guys have bought some, I think JBA, and Edelbrock have them, I don't know if they are for the 4X4 though. I looked up the Edelbrocks and they are pretty pricey, about $350. Its been a while since I looked them up , and I don't remember if they would fit a 4X4.
As for power, some said they are good for about 10 hp, as for gas mileage, well, that's anybodies guess. Some of the guys here say don't do the exhaust first, do the intake, then the exh.

if i was going to do anything like headers i'd try to find the exhaust manifolds from a '92 or '93 model. my reasoning is that those years the 3.9 was rated @ 200hp mainly because of a larger ported exhaust manifold. i'm sure they would be much cheaper than headers.

I don't think that the 92 to 93 3.9 made 200 hp. I'm almost positive that it was 175 only 5 hp more than the later 3.9s. Although it was the exhaust ports the did it. I remember a post about it on this board so if you do a search you might be able to find it.

Thanks. All the headers I looked up for a 3.9 are only avialable for 2wd. I might look into older manifolds. My neighbor has a junkyard and can probably check them out before buying.

dakattack98, you are correct kinda. the '92-'93 were rated at 180hp and the '94 up were rated @ 175hp. 5hp is still not bad for a relatively cheap upgrade.

hey !
check JBA .
but they not going to give you match.
you will lose some low end ,but gain top.
the only reason i got them -cause supercharger.
check some older posts ,or talk to larry.
you have to do you mods in right order,otherwise you run in to lot of disappointments
2003 /3.9/club cab/vortech supercharger system/harland sharp R/R /crane cams ignition/jba headers/magnaflow hi flow cat/gibson resonator/supertrapp 24 discs muffler/trans go shift kit,and lot more goodies

2 or 4 wheel they are direct bolt in manifold
replacements
It will not help much untill you first improve
the intake side cold air bigger throttle body
1.7 rockers than 10 to 15 hp
