Subject: Auto tranny issue IP: Logged
Message: My 2001 dakota is having a tranny problem. Its an auto with 124k so i know its realistic to be expeirencing a problem. The problem is when the truck goes to shift from first to second. It doesnt want to shift into second until higher in the rpms around 3 instead of about 2-2200 where it normaly shifts. Its only first gear and when it doest shift it is smooth. The rest of the gears shift smooth also. Its just the first into second it doesnt want to until higher rpms. The check engine light came on also leading me to believe it may be a sensor or something like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Message: first off, lets find out why the CEL is lit before we try to figure out the problem.
you need to see what codes are stored, very easy.
turn your key on/off/on/off/on(by on, i mean on, not start). now the codes will display in the odometer. something like this, P1492, P1306, etc. when it's finished it will display Pdone.
once you get the code, post back here and we'll try to guide you through getting it fixed.

Message: i'm not up to date on the auto trans but it looks like it could just be that Gov. Press. Sensor. could also be the solenoid.
have you serviced the trans lately? maybe just a servicing on the trans would cure it.
sorry, i can't help more than that. maybe someone with more auto trans knowledge will post up.
