1995 3.9 v6 when i turn key sometimes my starter grinds and then if you let off and try again starter will work I was wondering if anyone knew what the problem is and I thank you for the help.

check the starter bolts and make sure they are tight, if they are ok, then the gear on the starter, or flywheel or both could be bad. I had this problem before myself and it was just the starter bolts.

Bendix spring?? Is that in the starter.
I've also had the same problem but only when its cold. I live in Florida so cold is 60 deg or below. It never happens when its warm out. My starter is secure and the teeth look good too.

thought GM & Fords did that....If you had trans rebuilt,replace I would return to them and fix it before... If you replaced the starter might have something internally w/ starter my yrs as mechanic never came across a Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth vechile to do that WOW!! something isn't right obvious fix it before you destroy your flywheel

if the starter is tight, then there is something inside the starter that isn't letting it to engage fully. Could be the solinold isn't pulling hard enough to fully engage the starter gear. These are only guess's though.
I'm sure if you can find someone who knows a little about them, you could take if off and find out what the problem is.
