Subject: Shop Tune Vs. Superchips IP: Logged
Message: I have a 03 Dakota QC. I just bought a Superchips tuner, 1.7 Rockers, and I am getting ready to buy Gibson headers. Which is better...Superchips or getting a shop to tune my truck for the modifications I have? I also have an air cleaner assembly, super 44 muffler, TPS mod, V8 TB, and six pack hood scoop that forces all the cooler air I would ever need. Thanks in advance!

Message: How would the shop tune it ? Are you talking about a shop that could do a custom flash to your PCM ?

Message: In most cases, having a custom flash is going to be more effective than the Superchips tuner...assuming they're customizing the program to YOUR TRUCK. If they're just doing a custom flash with a pre-made tune, it depends on the tune in that case. Superchips uses preset tunes that are designed to work with the majority of vehicles the tuner is made for...so obviously they aren't going to "push the envelope" to squeeze a little more out of your vehicle as it could damage other vehicles. Whereas having a custom tune done, they can tune it perfectly to your vehicle and not have to worry about playing it safe for everyone.

Message: Alright so I installed the superchips today. I cant feel a difference!!! Granted I am on the 87 octane setting but tomorrow I will have some more time to test it out. What should I be trying to notice? Is Superchips going to help out w/ my new Gibson headers and 1.7 RR once they're installed?

Message: I didn't notice jack squat with the 87 octane setting...fill up with premium once or twice and try the performance setting. It'll wake your truck up...I noticed a pretty decent increase in mpg as well. Went from like 15 city to around 18 city...and highway went from 17-18 highway to 21-24.

Message: No I wasnt. I had already ordered Superchips when my friend brought up a shop tune. I was contemplating sending the tuner back but superchips had a couple other features I liked and I decided to install it last night. I didnt mean to lead you on Kowalski. Thanks for the info guys.

Message: I got the headlights off ebay. They look great at night but in the day they look a little different. These new headlights leave the stock headlights w/ silver star bulbs way behind! I love these things.

Message: Perfict power SMT6
Fuel +- 30%
timing +- 20 degrees
Now you can have a dyno shop tune it
This unit we have been using on the dodges you
can tweak every sensor for deflection percetage
at TPS reading its just fantastic what they can do
But you need a wide band a/f and a dyno for the
best resaults
Dyno shops charge around $250 and be sure they
are familure with the SMT6

Message: Superchips advise's that there will be no performance gain on the 87 setting. Check their website.
I am running the 91 performance setting. I love it. Also, for the 1st time this weekend I am gonna try out the 91 towing performance setting. I hope it "hauls" ass... (sorry, had to say it).

above 3000 about the same as the 91 program some

Message: I just got back from my trip. I towed an old
aluminum boat on a heavy azz trailor (1000
lbs?). I drove through some hills 20' - 1500'
elev.) and it did great! Granted I have more
mods than the turner it pulled nicely and could
hold speed. I was passing other cars with ease.
Pulled off the line nicely and I'm not sure
about the shifts, but I am going to drive with]
the setting for another 2 tanks before I switch
back to the straight 91 program. I wanna see if
I can feel the difference.
