I'm getting my starter repaired and was wondering, do I need to take out the starter solnoid also? Access is a pain but if I need to take it all out then I will. It's an 89 4x4 3.9 v6.

hitmanric, I'm a little confused, when you take out the starter, the solenoid is mounted on the starter, so after you get the starter out the solenoid should be easy to take off, I would just about bet half of your problems are with the solenoid to begin with, and I would replace it as well. That's just me though.

Ya thats what I thought, but when I looked at the Haynes guide it seemed like they could be detached. I realized trying to get it out that this wasn't the case. Time to go take off the skid plates I guess (ugh). Thanks
