Message: I just got sticker shock from the dodge dealer; they need to replace the upstream O2 sensors and the cat for the sum of 1,362 I said no way. I thought O2 sensors were only 70 bucks or so one else told that that the O2 sensor are in the Y pipe and may need to be replaced and the y pipe is 800 dollars or so. I have a 2002 dodge 3.9 4x4 does anyone know how many o2 sensors there are, and do you have to replace the Y pipe or the pre cat, and if so where can you buy a Y pipe or Pre cat I can't find on the y pipe or pre cat .

Message: My 02' with same motor 3.9L 2 wheel drive with 4 02 sensors and should be same with 4 wheel drive and sounds like dealing with someone not familar with there truck and you probaly know more than most average consumer out there I would leave the dealership out of the picture and keep your wallet in your pocket go to reputable exhaust shop you can TRUST!! and test your cats out to be defective or do it yourself with a vacuum gauge connecting to full vacuum port at idle should be 17-22 inches and inch less for every 1000 ft. note reading remember or write it down then snap your throttle to about 2500 rpm let it shut it should drop near 0, than rise above the reading you noted approx 5 inches and return to what was noted, and have long delay returning to normal you might have bad cat or muffler restricted in one or both???? sounds to much to do but least expensive thing you could do or most dealerships, exhaust repair facilities can do instead of emptying out your wallet for a trip they couldn't afford but with your cash they could LOL..... good luck

Message: do you know what codes you are getting?
there is no reason to change the y-pipe unless it's rusted and leaking.
i would stay far away from that dealer. if you are under 8yr/80k miles your cat should be covered by the Federal emissions warranty.

Message: Yea daddio if under 80,000-8yr. should be under FEDERAL warranty but dealer won't tell you that unless you know about it. thats what I dont like about dealerships they dont like saving the consumer money when its a defect or something they half to do because of manufacture defect and lose out on there commison based salary to many money hungry mechanics, thats what leads to bad word for most dealerships and many other reputable repair shops out there. These Dealers that sell us NEW cars/trucks salesman should inform you of these items before they come about that way you wouldn't be in for a ride with your wallet and a attitude adjustment afterwards... Agree???

Message: Thanks for the for information everyone, The Code I keep getting is P0432, I checked the Y pipe is seem a little rusty but no visible leaks although the passenger side the flanges are not flush to the header there seems like there is a spacer but it seems tight, I have been having off and on back firing issue with in the intake, I have had the intake gasket replaced, I hope changing the upstream sensors fixes this problem Its been an on going issue for too long, I had a Dakota with a 3.9 for 9 years no problems ever. This truck must have been built on a Monday, lol
