Subject: 94 dakota wont start IP: Logged
Message: I'm helping a friend with their 94 dakota v6 with auto trans, no mods. They thought I could help because I have a 92 that I claim to know something about.
the tranny went out in the 94 dak, it sat for about a year. finally fixed the trans, now the engine won"t start. It ran fine a year ago before the tranny problem. computer has code 11 set, cleared the codes seveal times and it gets set again. changed the distributor pick up and CPS still no start.
the power to the dist pick up and the CPS is 9 volt. a resistence check of the center wire to ground is good for each sensor. i don't see any voltage change when looking at the sensor signal return, while the engine cranks, not sure my digital meter will pick up pulsing voltage change while set to measure dc voltage.
can anyone make any suggestions of what to do or check
Thanks for any help

Message: stevedak, code 11 is no distributor input, I'm guessing the power from the computer to the distributor is broken down, I would check the conectors from the comp. to the dist. the wires that plug into the dist, follow them from the dist to the computer, and see what is going on from there. I have an 88 and the power for the coil is only about 9 volts and it works fine. But I don't think the coil would be the problem.
I can only think a wire some where is croded, or loose.
Good Luck

Message: NO - code 11 will be set every time if engine does not turn over = How are you getting code ?
On-off-on-off-on ?
Check the splice under the 'underhood ' fuse/relay box = about 8 to 11 inches up the harness = splice of 3 or 4 wires .
Redo it , solder it or use a very good quality
crimp connector..

Message: Update: I got it running. code 11 is for the CPS. replaced it with a new one, twice, but it didn't work. I put the new CPS in my 92 dak and it didn't work. finally figured out we had the wrong CPS. the CPS for a 92 and a 94 are different. when I put my CPS from my 92 dak into the 94, it started right up. It looks like my friends 94 dak has a 92/93 engine.
