Message: Things have taken a turn for the worst. Last night it got down to like -45* outside and I had no choice but to try and drive the truck. My other car's doors were frozen shut. Drove the truck for a few miles and the temp gauge shot right up. I stopped and tried to let it cool but it was SOOOO cold out and was freezing to the point that it was painfull. I had to drive the few miles back home and hope for the best. Coolant was boiling, and I'm pretty sure my antifreeze froze up some. There is coolant all over the engine bay. I got the truck inside and have the torpedo heater going. It was nearly impossible to get the truck running, had to hold the pedal to the floor and it would not idle no matter what. Ending up holing the rpms @ 2k and just put it in gear. Hoping that issue goes away once it warms up in the garage.

Message: So I went out and bought a coolant system pressure tester. I pumped the system up to 16 lbs and it did not drop even so much as a pound in 5 minutes (book said 2 minutes was plenty) Pressure tested the rad. cap and it would not hold any pressure. Did a a flush again, put a new thermostat in. (checked to make sure it worked in a pot of boiling water first) and installed a new rad. cap. Keep in mind it's currently -12* outside.... burrrrrrr. The temp gauge goes up to around half and then drops down to less then 1/3. No more overheating, some heat but not like I would expect.
I really need to find a way to find out if the water pump is in fact pumping the wrong direction.

Message: Nick H
Try turning off your blower motor for about 10-15 Mins after is has warmed up and drive around for awhile with it off. Then turn it back on and let me know what happens
Cheers!

Message: I have a similar problem.I was getting very little heat but also had some noise.Checked and found the water pump bad.I replaced the water pump and everything is good now except I still have no heat. The blower works, and I can hear the change in it's pitch when I turn the temp knob from cold to hot and back.
2000 Dakota 3.9,never had any problem until a couple weeks ago.Any ideas???

Message: Sounds like you aren't getting any flow through the heater core. Or maybe just a very little. when I rebuilt my engine I flushed out the core and did get a little dirt out of it, but I haven't had any problems with heat since I put my engine back in, that was in 2002.
Good Luck
