Subject: MSD 6a problem? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 02' V6 CC in California. I just did all of the stated MODS in the "Subject: 3.9 Suggested Mods?" (except FMS). Thanks Larry!
I DID NOT hook up the Tach Adapter and I am not getting any codes. I do have it in case, but it has been about 100 miles and still no code.
The only problem I have is this...
When I start my truck it does not fire as quick as it used to. I used to be able to just turn the key for a split second and it would fire up. Now it takes a little longer. Is there a reason for this? I would assume that with the 6a I would still get the same start up. Is it a problem or is it normal?
What do you think guys?

Message: Test the box
In the instructions use the 2 magnetic pickup
wires
touch them togather 3 times in a row and it
should spark coil wire 1/4" from ground
if it takes more its not right
You could have a bad box but check all connections
and grounds good on off signal to box
No it should actualy pop off the same as stock
Big red wire right to batt big black ground on
motor
There have been a few exceptions with the obd2 and
the tach adapter where it was not needed
check your batt quick with a volt meter if it drops
below 9.8 cranking the batt is getting bad

Message: Checked everything out Larry and it was all
good. So I decided to check the gap on my plugs.
All of them were set at .55 and looked a little
lean... white-ish. So I re-gapped them at .47
The truck fired up like it should. In a 25 miles
I am going to check them for color. On all my
other cars I have always looked for a toasted
marshmallow, I assume that nothing has changed
over the years. I'll tweak on it from there.
Thanks for the response and all the knowledge
you have posted to get me to this point.
BTW- is it normal to have my stock battery still
running strong after 5 years?

Message: A battery lasting 5-10 years is not uncommon, the thing I have found that helps is to keep the top of the battery clean, I just use a car wash wond and make sure it real clean. It does help, also I have added distilled water a few times to top it off, I think that will help also.
Good Luck

Message: Dakota49... Your right on. Keeping the battery top clean leaves no dust or dirt to collect minuet amounts of moister. The moisture makes an electrical path between the battery posts and slowly drains the battery down. Distilled water is the only way to go with battery water. Example. The battery in my 99 DAK is original.8 plus years and still checks out brand new.
