Message: Set the gap at factory gap without the MSD and .005"-.010" larger with the MSD.
You set the gap on the plugs with the little, round, $.99 tool at the counter of most parts stores.

Message: I put an MSD on my dak and was really impressed with the smoothness of the engine. I would recomend also with an MSD-6 a blaster SS coil. It just seems to start up a little better. I also went with the Bosch 4 prong plug. More expensive but seems to work well with the MSD-6. Make sure you get spiral wound wires, it doesn't have the full performance without them. Also MSD recomends theres but there's lots of other types out there. I bought Taylor 7.5mm. Greg

Message: Stealwings: MSD does not recommend any of the custom plugs or platinum. They don't work well with the multiple spark systems.

Message: MSD dosen't recommend a lot of things. They didn't recommend having a MSD coil with the MSD-6 system. Now they do. I have another truck. An old Ford. I put the MSD-6 on it and it still wouldn't pass smog. We put the bosch plugs on and it barely did. Greg

Message: I recently bought and replaced a long block in a 1987 Dakota 4 X 4, automatic, positive traction rear end. I have bad hesitation just off idel as I start out. The truck runs great before it warms enough to have the computer take over. I have no preignition and the shop analysed the computer to indicate the o2 feedback selinoid was not working which I repaired and am presently looking for a repalcement. My question is has anyone had success with and after market ignition on this old carburated truck? The engine has a 50,000 mile warranty and I will most likely drive it at least that long.

Message: Stealwings: It isn't just MSD. (And I don't know which coil you're referring to...they all are rated for specific applications and some of the different ignition systems DO require a hotter than normal coil.)

Message: It's an MSD Blaster SS coil. I called the MSD tech rep in El Paso and they said this is the best coil for the V-6 Dak. Ever since I put it on it's starts up quicker and seems to run smoother. I did what you said Bernd,I put on the plugs you were refering to,took off the 4 prong bosches. Once I raised to about .055 I started seeing a small improvement. I did this at .005 increments and went past .055 and noticed the .055 gap to be about the best. I have the MSD-6 offroad with the Blaster coil. Thanks, Greg
