I have a 2001 CC w/3.9 7 5-speed manual. 82,000 miles on it. Today truck started fine ran fine when I made several trips around town, and had no problems. When I stopped at Advance Auto Parts to check on some parts I need I came back out & the truck would not start. The battery was no good, from the AAP battery tester. It was a Mopar OE replacement battery. Funny thing was that the truck never exhibited any of the drivability or electrical problems other people here with bad batteries have posted about. Has anyone else on here had a battery just conk out like that all of a sudden? I had to get a new one at Advance, and on the old one there was a sticker saying it was manufactured January 2005. 3 years is about all you can expect from a battery here in Florida because of the heat, but I wasn't having any starting problems or drivability problems at all. The battery just died. Anyone else have the same experience with a Mopar battery??

My original battery ,and 2 more since then, did the same thing.Cranks, leave the house, stop and get gas, then it would'nt even click.I replace mine when they get 5 years old,if they make it that long, just to keep from getting stranded.

More then one death for a battery. Sulphation is the slow death that steals the voltage/amps. This is the one makes the truck idle rough ect. busted plate, busted post or busted connection between cells all give instant death explaining instant dead battery. It can happen at any time .

Thanks Obio3. I never really thought of it that way, most bad batteries I ever saw died a slow death I guess and had problems starting, bad idle etc for a while before they finally quit. Thanks.

Hey guys, I had a battery go bad while driving and it shorted its self out drew all the power from the alt. and killed the engine right where I was. (on a 2 lane road) Just quit, I got off to the side and a friend of mine came along about an hour later and we took the old batt, to wal-mart and got a new one. It was weird, but it can happen, the thing is I was lucky it didn't kill the alt. as well. Oh yeah, I didn't have any problems until it just died.
Good Luck

Jimmy, i just replaced the original battery in my '00 QC about 1 month ago. it lasted almost 8 yrs. still started the truck but was slow cranking and had the rough idle on first start for a few seconds. now, my QC is a Sport model with NO power acc. only a 300 watt amp. maybe that's why it lasted as long as it did.

i have seen batteries die both ways. sudden death and slow agonizing. you never know.

by the way, you mentioned the Florida heat. i live in south central louisiana. believe me it gets hot here too.

I guess some batteries do hold up better than others depending on how they get used. My truck would be the opposite of yours Daddio, I have some electrical parts that could have caused a heavier load on it I guess. Aftermarket cruise control, alarm, radar and a mild audio system. I don't know if SilverStar headlights draw more power but I have a set of the Ultra's on mine. The OE battery the 2000 CC I bought for my wife only lasted about 18 months with no accessories installed, so you really never do know.

Thanks,

Jimmy

the battery in my 2000 quad lasted 5 years, and i was boosting people, leaving on my interior lights till the battery was dead and i live in Canada where it gets to -50 on the worst of winter nights, but that oem battery sure lasted long, i think it is like all things some last some don't go figure, and when it was finally time to replace it my truck was giving me lots of signs such as it would not idle at start up and sometime stall when going slowly in reverse.
