Message: ive read about 50 some odd pages of posts and figured alot of stuff out, but still lost on an issue. I start my truck when its cold (setting for over 24 hours in 0-35 degree weather) and sometimes it starts up nicely... other times it starts and dies. rpm's go to 500 and drop. i push the gas level itout at about 1k for a second and release slowly and it sputters some and dies. if i try to start it its like its flooded almost, cranks tries to fire but just wont. do it a few times (10 second intervals about 3 times) and it fires slowly if the gas is featherd. then i have to run it to about 2k and hold it steady at 1-1.5k for a few seconds and then i can release the gas slowly and it wont die. what causes that? any ideas would be great. thanks guys

Message: ive read alot about timing chain issues and ive done alot of regular maintanence, all new fluids are synthetic in basically everything. new oil press. sending unit. thermostat, exhaust and k&n intake are only mods. i thought fuel issue, but im working on new cap and rotor, timing chain... ive done good maint since i bought it at 75k but previous owner did min. maintenance thats all. fuel system cleaner is first step... cheap and easy if it works great.

Message: I would check for codes first, and see if that does any good, then with the mileage you have I would remove the throttle body and spray down with carb. cleaner and be sure to remove all the sensors to make sure everything gets clean. Then replace the sensors, you should also spray the IAC Valve Idle Air Control Valve. don't touch or move the piece on the end just spray with cleaner then replace. That should help a lot.
Good Luck

Message: have your battery load tested. if it is weak it will crank the truck but, for the first few seconds, until the alternator builds the battery back up it will idle funky or not at all.
what happens is the battery voltage gets low enough for the PCM to lose it's idle memory. thats whay after it runs a few seconds it starts to regain it's idle.
most auto parts stores will load test it for free.

Message: hey thanks guys, i checked the battery and it was fine. i checked codes and i got nothing... had a vaccum leak that i fixed and it dies even harder now... but after taking things apart some and doing as you suggested and cleaning the throttle body and the sensors i found that the idle control module or idle air control valve or w/e its called is bad, so i think thats what the deal was, i cleaned it and it starts better but it still does not idle properly, thanks for all the help. i really appreciate it
