Subject: rattle noise IP: Logged
Message: i have a 2000 3.9l 5 speed and when iam going up a hill or getting up to speed there is a rattling noise over by the passengers side up by the dash or back of engine compartment. any suggestions thanks.

Message: i dnt think it is pinging because it only does it certain times. and sounds like a rattle or something. but idk it could be.

Message: if it's "rattling" when accelerating or going uphill it's got to be pinging. try some 89 or 91 octane and if it goes away it's definitely pinging. post back after because there are several things you can do to aleviate pinging.

Message: Check the catalytic converter. Chrysler settle a lawsuit with the epa regarding rattling converters. Converters warranty were extended, however Chrysler did not have to "recall" all vehicles. see epa.gov/compliance/resources/cases/civil/caa/daimlerchrysler-fcsht.html -

Message: it might be that iam going to go have it checked. allso how would i fix. when i start up the truck or rev it the heat sheild on the exhaust before the catalytic converter. the shiels is between the front differential and the exhaust it vibratrates and makes a vibrating noice.

Message: i heard that a few people have had the same rattle like a tin can rattling or something they said it was the speedometer cable vibrating against something. i don't rememeber what exactly but i just remember they fixed it by zip ties to hold it away.
