i'm thinking about switching all my fluids over to synthetic. i've been using conventional oil since i bought it new and changed every 3000 miles consistently! she runs good but i can tell the there is a bit of age factor and mileage now. i've always used 5w-30 as per manual, can you get synthetics in the weight you're currently using?
when running synthetic do i still need to change every 3000 miles, that stuff is expensive! i would also like to put synthetic in the rear which i think is currently 75w-90 mopar fluid with friction modifier. does the rear still get the modifier if you put synthetic in?
my mechanic also said when i do my next oil change only put a quart of synthetic in and the rest conventional. he said synthetic will clean out any sludge. then at next oil change i can go all synthetic.
if someone can guide me in the right direction i would appreciate it. thanks!

I change mine every 6000 but I run it hard
With a good filter like a wix K&N napa gold
carquest sell these
some run it 12000 but change filter at 6000
And yes any weight you want
You can also run the bigger filter 3/4 16 thread
for the older 318
It will turn black fast the first few run thrus
cleaning out all the crap

Message: cool, thanks larry! im gonna switch to synthetic my next oil change. I already have synthetic royal purple in the rear end. I got the kind that already has the additive to it so I didn't have to worry if I needed to add some or not.
Anybody got a recommendation of what syntheyic engine oil to use?? I know its a constant contraversy on here and im not lookin to get into that. I like the things I've heard about royal purple and Ive heard good things about full synthetic mobile 1. i honestly dont like the mobile company but I guess all oil companys are the same.

Message: i'm trying out the super tech from walmart. only been about 1k miles so far on it. oill pressure looks good, mileage has seemed to improve a little, between 1-2 mpg. also trying a mopar filter. i need to try to find the Wix for the older 318's. much larger filter as Larry stated.

Message: daddio for what its worth
The Fram PH43 fit the 318's from 1973 - 1993
you could have your local Napa or Wix dealer cross reference that part # for you.

Message: boomer, what are you using in the rear? i want to change that too but never knew what to get and most parts guys don't have a clue.
as for synthetic, i had heard to change at 7,000 so would that mean i still change the filter at 3,000? input please!
my truck only takes 4 quarts of oil so changing over shouldn't break the bank. should i only add one quart synthetic and the rest conventional like my mechanic said and then next time all synthetic?
