Message: I installed a muffler for a buddy on his truck
he was going to go with one
he instead chose the new Thrush steel chambered muffler
so i didnt get to hear the aero chamber
but i did hear the Thrush chambered they sound damn good and was only around $40
(actually sounds like a flow master nice and deep & throaty)

Message: Hey,
I'm bored at work, and ventured onto this V6 board. (I got a 4.7, with some mods that WERE dynoed, by me)
screwhead,
YOu claim to have a power increase, from a muffler change?
Got a dyno, other than your butt dyno, to prove it?

Message: No i do not have a dyno to prove it, i do not have access to one, i could find one and pay for one but i would much rather get some serious mods on there first. however almost any aftermarket muffler will give you more HP over the stock one because it is more restrictive. the reason why i say almost any aftermarket muffler is because if your over all setup for your exhaust sucks then you wont see a gain you will probably see a loss. The reason why i like the hooker aerochamber is because when you hold it up you can see right through it, its not chamber to restrict air flow to great a better sound, thats all i am saying. Wish i could give you dyno proof. If anyone has it, for our dakotas i would love! to see it. but until then i am sticking with a product that i enjoy and probably bias to since its a holley made product.

Anyways! to the true point. Yes i blieve the it does give off a good sound. I think the Flowmaster is louder because it is chambered. I never was able to compare the two. I think it comes down to personal choice.

Message: They are substantially different; as the 3.9 was based on the older style 5.2 v8 - while the 4.7 is a very different, newer overhead cam design. It's the 3.7 six that is similar to the 4.7; but the 2 less cylinders of the 6 will make a big difference in sound as well. Those of us with the 4.7 have found a muffler change by itself not increasing HP, might be different with a 3.9. I'd imagine Todd posted what he did because we regularly see people claim a gain for the 4.7 with a muffler change; while the dyno results don't support that.

Message: I did it to show you the sound increase if you knew what a stock 4.7L sounded like. If your looking for sound I think the flowmaster sounds better. But i like the sound off my hooker, I tried a turn down pipe right after the muffler but it was WAY too loud in the cab. So have fun!
