I LEARNED THE TRUTH ABOUT API AND SWITCHED TO AMSOIL
All vehicle manufacturers in the U.S. have agreed that a warranty cannot be denied because a customer was using any particular brand of oil that meets specifications, unless an engine failure was directly attributable to the fluid. If it is not a fluid related failure, they cannot void the warranty. The law supports this position.
Plus, the dealer/manufacturer has no way of telling what fluid you are using. How do I know? I am a former aircraft technician. I too was sceptical in the beginning. But now I am a believer.
I WAS WRONG BEFORE.
Amsoil meets and exceeds D/C specs.

Message: I learned the truth about API too and found, like many auto manufactures have, that their testing is somewhat less than credible. You must keep in mind that API stands for American Petroleum Institute....these are oil people testing and approving the very products they sell. During the late 90's Ford was having a lot sludge problems with their 4.6/5.4 engines. Ford at that time spec a API 10w-30 oil for the engines. Ford and other manufactures found out that API was approving just about any oil they had too much of laying around just to help oil producers move their stock, never mind whether it met the antisludge requirements of late model engines. At this point Ford and several other manufactures joined forces to create new standards for testing oils used in their vehicles and specifically excluded API from that process!! Ford came up with the WSS-M2C153-H standard for the 5w-20 oil thay now recommend for the 4.6/5.4. The 153h standard is an extremly tough double time test that very few 5w-20 petroleum oils meet. The only 2 I know of are Motorcraft and Castrol Gray Cap. API testing was so useless that many manufactures (Porsche and VW come to mind) do their own oil testing and have a "list" of approved oils to use in their vehicles.

All one has to do is open the owners manual and do a little reading for the oil specifications recommended by your engines manufacturer.
I also had my hair stand on end of the zinc issue.
I mean zinc?
Good stuff to galvanize nails, screws & boat trailers but in engine oil? not so good

Actually the additive is zinc phosphate.....a anti wear additive most oils contained when engines used flat tappet cams. This additive was used in large doses to keep flat tappets from wiping out cams. Of course, the EPA found out it was also fouling EGR systems and cat converters. result was most modern engines moving to roller cams and elimination of zinc phosphate from engine oils.

Not even made by Mobil and not even API.

they had to cook up a whole new oil just to get ONE API certified!
ALL Royal Purple OILS (with exception to the race oils) ARE API CERTIFIED!
Race Oils do not need to be or get API certified.
You want to make a statement, get the facts straight.

API means nothing. It is a MINIMUM rating.
Redline and Amsoil don't care about government
mandated minimums.
Both Redline and Amsoil meet and exceed minimum API
